Toyota Hybrids

Toyota Hybrids

Toyota Hybrids combine the power of petrol engines and the fuel savings of electric motors to give you lower emissions without waiting for the battery to be charged. 20 years ago we set the standard with the Prius. Today we’re still leading the way with our Toyota Hybrid technology for a cleaner, greener future for all Australians.

How Hybrid works

See for yourself how the Toyota Hybrid system delivers outstanding performance and efficiency by combining the benefits of an electric motor with a petrol engine.

How Hybrid cars work

Hybrid vehicles seamlessly combine the power of petrol engines with the efficiency of electric motors. In a Hybrid, the battery is recharged while you drive so it’s always ready to go without ever needing to be plugged in.

Intelligent switching

When stationary or driving in city traffic, the vehicle can automatically switch to electric (or EV) mode using zero fuel and dramatically reducing CO2 emissions [G12].

Charges while you drive

During deceleration or when braking, the electric motor continues to generate power, storing it in the vehicle’s battery to keep it charged.

Fast power delivery

When accelerating or cruising at high speeds, the petrol engine turns on automatically for extra power and responsive performance when you need it.

Why choose Hybrid

With a Hybrid, you get all the power and torque advantages of an electric vehicle so you can go further for less. Driving around town, the electric motor does the work with dramatically reduced CO2 emissions[G12]. On the open road, the petrol engine takes over for efficient high-speed driving.

Advanced power, no compromises.

Working in perfect harmony, the Hybrid’s petrol engine and electric motor unite to create one powerful, fuel-efficient system.

Effortless acceleration

Toyota Hybrid’s electric motor provides a controlled, efficient take-off thanks to instant torque and a faster response.

Hybrid FAQs

How long will my Hybrid battery be covered for?
The life of a Hybrid vehicle and a Hybrid HV battery will vary depending on usage and environmental factors. For Hybrid vehicles bought before 1 January 2019, we’ll cover your Hybrid battery for eight years from date of first delivery or 160,000km, whichever comes first.

For Hybrid vehicles bought after 1 January 2019, we’ll cover your Hybrid battery for up to 10 years, provided you undertake your annual inspection as part of routine maintenance according to the vehicle logbook.

What happens if my Hybrid battery runs out of charge?
The high-voltage Hybrid 'traction battery' will never run out of charge, as it charges while you drive.

Does it cost more to service a Hybrid?
During your Toyota Service Advantage[TS1] period, all servicing costs are capped at the same price for both Hybrid and conventional models. However, once this period expires, you may need to factor in additional servicing requirements, which could increase the annual cost of your service.

Can a Hybrid run on electricity when it runs out of fuel?
No. A Toyota Hybrid can only operate in electric mode when petrol is in the tank.
